About Us

Beta Rho Chapter was founded on June 2, 1973 when nineteen educators from Monroe County, Michigan were initiated into membership of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Alpha Iota State, Beta Rho Chapter. Beta Rho's currrent membership stands at 44 active and 3 reserve members. Members who are actively teaching or supervising are employed at all levels from K through college. Our monthly meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of the month at various locations around Monroe County.

Beta Rho is a member of the Cascade Council.

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honor society of women educators. The Society website can be found at: http://www.dkg.org/ The Society promotes professional and personal growth of its members and excellence in education. Prospective members who evidence leadership qualities are invited to join and must meet the membership qualifications set by The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Service Projects

During the summer we contribute a meal for Holiday Camp, the local camp that services handicapped children. At Christmas, we select a local charity and make a contribution.

Beta Rho endows a $300 scholarship for a student at Monroe County Community College.

Delta Kappa Gamma Purposes

  • To INITIATE, ENDORSE, and SUPPORT desirable legislation or other suitable endeavors in the interests of education and of women educators.
  • To ENDOW scholarships to aid outstanding women educators in pursuing graduate study and to grant fellowships to non-member women educators.
  • To STIMULATE the personal and professional growth of members and to encourage their participation in appropriate programs of action.
  • To INFORM the members of current economic, social, political, and educational issues so that they may participate effectively in world society.
